Early life, education

As a young man, Replogle attended prep school at Choate Rosemary Hall, in Connecticut.[1] Among his extracurricular activities, he was a disc jockey on the school's FM radio station, and was involved in the school's concert committee. He helped book The Youngbloods to perform for the student body. In 1975, his senior year at Choate, he was awarded an honor's program which afforded him the opportunity to receive a semester's credit while working off campus for PBS in Manhattan.[3] The station, Thirteen/WNET, had him work with an Emmy Award-winning producer as a research assistant.[2][5]

As an undergraduate at The College of William and Mary in Virginia, Replogle was again on the radio and also ran the Concert Committee. He helped bring Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Jefferson Starship/Hot Tuna, Little Feat, and The Grateful Dead to perform for the student body.[1][3] In his junior year he was selected for an honor's program in British Literature at Trinity College, Oxford University.[1]

Career

After graduation Replogle quickly landed a job in television in Hollywood, California. He worked for Norman Lear as a Production Assistant and Script Editor at various sitcoms,[5] examples of which are All in the Family, Diff'rent Strokes, The Jeffersons, and The Facts of Life.[2][3]

Double Fantasy (1980)

At a party in 1980 Replogle was introduced to a "headhunter" in the entertainment business, who in time told him about an opportunity to work with John Lennon and Yoko Ono.[2][5] After meeting Lennon and, as Replogle stated, receiving "Yoko's okay to my astrological chart,"[5] the couple personally hired Replogle to serve as publicist on their upcoming record.[4] Replogle flew to Manhattan to sit in with the band as they recorded at the Hit Factory. Titled Double Fantasy, the album was released just three weeks before Lennon's tragic murder.[1]

Rock Management USA

After the Double Fantasy project Replogle founded Low Key Enterprises, his own Public Relations firm of which he was CEO and Director. Subsequent clients included The Channel Club, which at the time was the largest rock club in Boston. He also handled regional promotion for a multitude of recording artists.[3][5]

In 1986 Replogle graduated with a Masters of Theology from the Virginia Theological Seminary.[1] That same year he founded Rock Management USA, a music publicity agency that he continues to operate. The agency provides band management, promotions, and bookings.[1][3][4]

He's worked with Replogle Globes, founded by his family, and Hot House Press.[5]

John Lennon Statue (2010)

In early 2010, it was announced that Replogle had the exclusive contract to sell a historic statue of John Lennon by artist Brett-Livingstone Strong.[6] The bronze life-size statue, which was started six months before Lennon's death, was appraised at over $12 million dollars. It was originally unveiled in Los Angeles in 1981 by Mayor Tom Bradley, and in New York by Andy Warhol. It was showcased at the Grammy Awards Music Academy in Los Angeles for almost a decade, and in the early 1980s, Rolling Stone received over 250,000 signatures petitioning to have the statue placed in Central Park at the Strawberry Fields memorial.[3][4]

Personal life

Replogle currently lives in Manhattan. Rock Management USA is currently working on a project called 'The New British Invasion'. In his spare time, Mr. Replogle enjoys playing guitar and harmonica.[5]
